The Downtown Arts District of Los Angeles (previously known as the Warehouse District) is located west of Boyle Heights and bordered by the eastern side of the Los Angeles River. The Arts District is home to numerous galleries, businesses and artists who have resided in the area since the 1970’s due to the spacious industrial and former railroad buildings. There are over 1,200 live/work lofts in the arts district along with many produce, manufacturing and filming locations that bring the Downtown Arts District to life. The Arts District gained a cultural anchor when the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC) moved in, occupying a historical railroad building.
